What Would It Take for the College Campus to Worship Jesus? (September Ministry Update)
What would it take for the college to worship Jesus? This is question that I have been thinking about this past month while on campus at the George Washington University. The answer that I have arrived at is that those who know Him on campus should worship Him first and invite others into the love, joy, and peace of worshipping the true Creator of all. After just ending our first full month on campus, so much has happened since our last time connecting! Early September was filled with many moments of discipleship (helping students to grow in their faith) and evangelism (helping students to know Jesus). For some students, we have been picking up where we left off last year and for others we have been starting from scratch. One of the things that I have been the most grateful for is watching students going from death to life, from darkness and depression to life in Jesus, from wandering in this life to worshipping the risen Lord!
Worship of the risen Lord is the reason behind all that we do and has permeated all our corporate moments, namely our Large Group. Large Group is the moment where our students from George Washington, University of Maryland, Howard, etc. all come together for a time of community, testimonies, and a sermon from someone on our team. Before the semester started two of our student leaders came to us and offered the idea of them leading worship at the start of our Large Group moments. This sparked something for us where we have now had multiple worship moments with students leading! While our worship is more than the songs we sing, there is something special about us getting to lift our voices to bless the name of the Lord!
This worship continued into our Fall Retreat weekend Sept. 29th through October 1st. Fall Retreat is a time where we get a chance to get away from the business of normal school life and slow down with Jesus. This slowing down amounts to a clear conscience leading to pure worship of Jesus. We took 33 students from our area campuses and it was completely transformational for the students that attended. Students experienced healing and freedom from emotional and spiritual bondage, there were amazing salvations, and other students were brought into community in a way they didn't think was possible.
My prayer is that this worship would continue into the other corporate moments that we have coming up like Campus Sunday. I am getting to watch student after student open, not just their mouths, but open their hearts more and more to Jesus. Campus Sunday is October 22nd and is a moment that we get to highlight the students and what the Lord is doing in them to the church. Its a moment of celebrating of the testimonies and moment of exhortation for students and the church to walk in a manner worthy of the One who has called them. Thank you for your continued partnership in the gospel and may our collective lives amount to a pleasing act of worship to the Lord!
